What an amazing week!

Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too? -Douglas Adams-

It's been such a good week, I don't know where to begin.

Let's start with the most recent and happiest surprise we have. My youngest daughter is engaged! Her boyfriend asked her today to marry him. He asked Sandi and I if it would be ok if he proposed, and once we told him we would be proud to have him as part of the family, he proceeded to pop the question. He picked out a very nice ring set, btw. (Sorry Mark, not from your store :( .) 2010 is the planned year for the wedding. That will give us a few years to put some money away for it.

On Thursday, Sandi and I went to Fort Creek with the dog. We took her for a walk through the trails there. She loved it. The scenery was breathtaking. It was a georgous, sunny day, -2C, and not a cloud in the sky. Pita ran her butt off, and managed to make 3 new friends along the way. We really enjoyed the walk. It got a bit long for Sandi towards the end. Her back was getting sore by the time we were about 3/4 throught the walk. We all slept great that night though!

Monday we took Damian over to see Sandi's parents. They had a blast with him. We had a good visit. We took him down to the mall later and showed him off to everyone. Once we got home he had a good, long nap on my stomach. (I've spent a lot of time creating the perfect sleeping space for grandchildren, at least that's my story). He is such a good baby.

Our niece just had a baby girl. They had to induce labour. They started at 8am on Monday, and she had a baby girl at 5pm Tuesday. The were going to perform a C-section, but every time they went to assess her, there was progress so they waited. All is well now though. Both baby and mom are very healthy and happy.

This last week has just been one good day after another. It sets the bar high for this week, I suppose, but I think it going to be another good week.

Pax, all.

I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be. -Douglas Adams-

Many years ago, I had a plan. Not a real specific plan, mind you, but a plan. A lot of it involved having a job that paid well, a bit of money in the bank, a start on a retirement package, and a clue. As things sit right now, I have none of it in place, and it's driving me nuts.
My layoff was definitely an unexpected turn of fortune. Sandi's layoff was a kick in the groin enough as it was, but with mine coming right behind it, well, let's say it just didn't help. I have a small start on a retirement fund, no money in the bank anymore, no job and no clue. My EI is still coming in, but it's only 65% of what I was making at work, and no benefits. It pays the bills and all, and gives us a little extra money at the end of the week, but that's about it. No savings building up, no more RRSP contributions, and no cheap prescriptions. This is just not where I was supposed to be.
On the upside, I admit I am being more picky about my job search. I have a salary in mind that I am shooting for, and am going to use the time I have on EI to work towards getting it. I am still considering taking training through EI as well. I suppose time will tell.
So here's looking to the future. I am hopeful. I think I will end up where I am supposed to be once all is said and done.

One, two, three, four.....

You live and learn. At any rate, you live. -Douglas Adams-

I started this entry 45 minutes ago. I have restarted it 4-5 times already. I hate writers block.

Bon Soo wrapped up on a different note this year. The closing ceremonies and a few outdoor events on the last day were snowed out. It was still a lot of fun though.

With the recent bouts of snowstorms we had over the last week, I have a new appreciation for TV programming. I can sum it up fairly easily: It sucks. After having been snowed in for 3 days I am fairly certain that my IQ was smashed diwn an few notches by all the brainless programs I watched. The writers strike couldn't have helped much either. Thankfully I had the internet.

This is one of the lamest posts I've ever written, and it only took 1.5hrs. lol

Fun for the Whole Family!

If a tie is like kissing your sister, losing is like kissing you grandmother with her teeth out.
-George Brett-

Bon Soo is here! Our winter carnival is going on for the rest of the week. The fireworks on Friday were awesome. There was the Michelle Wright concert at the Steelback, which drew tons of people and was apparently an excellent show. (I didn't go, unfortunately)
I played the Bon Soo dart tournament on Sunday. I didn't win, but that's not important right now. I played both the doubles and singles. I didn't make it out of my section in either event, but I had a TON of fun!
There was Guitar Hero competition over the weekend, which was a new event. It was pretty cool. It's nice to see new events coming up, especially ones that catch on to new trends in entertainment.
We also had the I-500 snowmobile race this weekend. There was some concern about what shape the track was going to be in after the warm spell we had, but it got cold in time for it to tighten up so the race could go on. Corey Davidson became a 6 time winner, and on his mother's birthday no less. CONGRATS ON THE WIN!
My daughters want to go in the polar bear swim this coming weekend. I entered it 11 years in a row back in the day, and I know that it's a really fun event. The'll have a ball. I can't wait to see them carry on a family tradition.
There's plenty going on this week for people of all ages in town this week.

Pax all.
